GS Group chairman Huh Chang-soo on Thursday donated his shares in GS Engineering and Construction worth about 7 billion won ($6.2 million) to a charity foundation named after his father.
The chairman has continued to donate shares in the builder to the J K Huh Foundation every year since its establishment in 2006.
Including the 68,000 shares he contributed on Thursday, Huh has donated a total of 328,000 shares in GS E&C worth some 32 billion won to the foundation.
The J K Huh Foundation has provided the underprivileged with medical support, scholarships, cultural and welfare support, and has sponsored academic projects.
In 2008, Huh was named as one of the “48 Asian altruists” by Forbes magazine.
