2 boys, woman, allegedly sacrificed

Two 10-year-old boys and a woman whose bodies were found in northern Mexico were sacrificed to Santa Muerte, the saint of death, investigators say.

The Sonora State Investigative Police announced Friday that eight people have been charged with the killings, CNN reported. Most of the suspects are members of a single family and one is only 15.

The bodies were discovered in Nacozari de Garcia, a mining village 150 miles north of Hermosillo and 50 miles south of the U.S. border.

Investigators say the first victim was killed in 2009 and the last this month.

Jose Larrinaga, a spokesman for Sonoran prosecutors, called the worship of Santa Muerte a "Satanic cult." The saint, usually depicted as a skeletal woman carrying a scythe, is not recognized by the Catholic Church and is popular with drug gangs.

Prosecutors say that after the victims were killed their blood was offered on Santa Muerte's altar. (UPI)

소노란 경찰 대변인인 호세 라리나가는 산타 무에르테 숭배가 ‘사악한(satanic) 추종’이라고 말했다. 주로 낫을 들고 다니는 여성 해골로 묘사되는 산타 무에르테는 카톨릭 교단에서 인정하지 않으며 많은 마약 갱단들이 추종하고 있다.

경찰에 따르면 희생자들이 살해된 후 그들의 피가 산타 무에르테의 재단에 바쳐졌다고 한다.
