Come Together is a series introducing associations and clubs that expats can get involved in. This week, Expat Living spoke to Jeeban Poudel, executive secretary of the Society of Nepalese Students in Korea. ― Ed.

● Started: 2004

● Who is it for? For Nepalese students directly or indirectly related to South Korea

● What goes on? Educational programs, information sharing, opportunity sharing and for the most part, keeping in touch.

Our objective is to promote academic, professional and other mutual interests through increased exchange of ideas and views among Nepali students studying in different academic institutions throughout the country.

We invite people who have done particularly good work to give talks and help inspire other Nepalese students to do similar work.

We have also started a small journal called SONSIK journal for work by Nepalese academics and we have already published two editions.

We have been working to build up an academic network among Nepali students and ease the transition into Korean society, and also provide a common forum to exchange ideas about research and other academic opportunities.

Plans for the future? We want to make it an official organization registered in South Korea and work in cooperation with other organizations, too.

Are there any membership fees? We take 5,000 won for membership.

What is the highlight of the year? The Educational Seminar that we plan to organize in Seoul on May 26. The seminar will invite Nepalese students from all over Korea to share their work and act as a forum to let people know about current academic issues.
