The national professional football federation on Friday said referees in its top competition made incorrect calls in one in every seven matches in the 2014 season, adding that the guilty officials were all punished for their mishaps.

The K League said referees made wrong calls in 33 out of 225 matches this past season in the K League Classic, unveiling for the first time the exact number of matches marred by poor officiating.

The league said of those 33, referees had made bad calls on awarding penalties.

The officiating committee of the league said the referees were nearly 95 percent correct on their offside calls, but were only about 76 percent accurate on calls related to penalties.

“Overall, our referees lacked composure when dealing with plays inside the area,” said Lee Woon-taek, head of the officiating committee. “It’s likely due to the lack of confidence on the referees’ part. We will try to address these problems over the winter.” (Yonhap)
