The head of the South Korean football governing body on Monday urged coaches of the top domestic professional league to play more aggressive football, saying more goals will bring more fans to seats.

Chung Mong-gyu, president of the Korea Football Association, had a luncheon meeting with five head coaches of the K League Classic. During their meeting, Chung, who once served as the pro football commissioner, said he hoped to see clubs play with more abandon.

“Next year, I hope the teams can entertain fans with an aggressive brand of football,” Chung said. “The KFA will offer necessary support to make that happen.” 


Body to rediscuss penalty

The national professional football federation said Monday it will rediscuss the penalty imposed on a club owner for his open criticism of officiating.

The K League said it will hold a board meeting on Dec. 23 to reconsider the penalty for Lee Jae-myung, owner of Seongnam FC in the first-division K League Classic.

On Dec. 5, Lee received a warning, the most lenient penalty the K League can hand down, after he complained about the quality of officiating. (Yonhap)
