South Korean pop duo TVXQ has scooped up five awards at the Japan Gold Disk Award 2014, including best Asian artist, the duo's management agency said Friday.

Four other awards they won are Pop Album of The Year, Best 3 Albums, Song of the Year by Download and Best Music Videos, S.M. Entertainment said in a release.

Girls' Generation, a K-pop group also management by the company, had two of its albums -- the second and third full-length albums -- on the Best 3 Albums list.

Founded in 1987, the Japan Gold Disk Award is a major music awards ceremony held annually in Japan by the country's recording industry association to honor artists and albums who have contributed the most to the development of the industry. Winners are picked based on music sales over the past one year.

Last year, TVXQ had a five-dome tour of Japan for the first time as a foreign singer, drawing a combined audience of 850,000.

It sat atop weekly Oricon Singles Chart for 12 weeks, a record for foreign singers in Japan.

The band released a repackaged album of their seventh full-length album on Thursday and is set to resume activities on local television programs to perform the album's title piece "Spellbound" on Friday. (Yonhap)
