Dates for South Korea's football friendlies against Spain and the Czech Republic have been set, the sport's national federation said Friday.

South Korea will take on Spain on June 1 in Salzburg, Austria, and face the Czech Republic on June 5 in Prague, the Czech Republic, according to the Korea Football Association, which said earlier this week it was in talks with the two European counterparts to set matches in early June.

The teams are trying to arrange kickoff times, the KFA added.

The Spanish Football Federation also announced on its website its national team will face South Korea on June 1.

The third-ranked Spain and the 25th-ranked Czech Republic have been paired in the same group at the Euro 2016 tournament kicking off later in June. South Korea, ranked 53rd, have winless records against both opponents.

South Korea last met Spain in May 2012, before the Euro 2012, and lost 4-1, falling to two draws and three losses all-time. South Korea eliminated Spain in the quarterfinals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup in penalties, but a shootout victory is officially recorded as a draw.

Against the Czech Republic, South Korea have managed one draw and three losses, the last meeting resulting in a 5-0 defeat in 2001.

South Korea will resume the second round of the Asian qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup next month but have already booked a spot in the final round, which will begin in September. (Yonhap)
