Korea’s leading design event will be held next week in Daegu showcasing the latest innovative design products by Korean and international brands and designers.

Design Korea 2012, organized by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, has attracted a wide range of Korean and international brands such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Woongjin Coway, Sally Hansen, Dell, Belkin and Philips.

In its 10th year, the event is regarded as Korea’s largest design fair. This year’s event will focus on the broad role of design in diverse fields in technology, business and art. Under the theme “Design Convergence,” the design event will show the audience how design converges in everyday life to enhance lifestyle.

“The 10th Design Korea has been upgraded to reflect the needs of the design industry and customers. It will offer a new insight into design as well,” said Lee Tae-young, president of the KIDP at the news conference on Monday.

“This year’s event will touch on diverse fields where design plays an important role especially in service design and technology. People will be surprised to find out how design contributes to solving social problems such as in service design,” Lee added.

“We will take outstanding products showcased at Design Korea 2012 to major international design events that will take place in Munchen, Milan and London,” Lee said.

Three of the most popular design events include the Milan Design Fair, 100% Design London and Maison et Objet held in Paris.

Foreign countries will add diversity to the design event, holding their own design exhibits. The participating countries include Germany, Australia, China and the U.S.

One highlight of the event is the Korean Design DNA section showing the roots of Korean design and how they are represented in today’s design in architecture, furniture, clothes, packaging and even cars.

The emerging designers section will showcase unique ideas from young and talented designers and serve as a venue that offers business consulting and job opportunities.

The design section for children features fun and interesting activities that will stimulate children’s creativity.

The event will also serve as a hub for networking opportunities for designers, buyers and experts from diverse industries.

The Design Korean event will be held at Exco in Daegu from Oct. 25-28.
