British family campaigners criticized a website that gives advice on sex acts to children as young as 13, local media reported Wednesday.

The respectyourself.info website, provided by the “Respect Yourself” project, features explicit images of naked people as well as detailed information on sexual acts. The project was funded by Warwickshire Council and the EU and was designed by the National Health Service,

“This is a grossly irresponsible website and a complete misuse of taxpayers’ hard-earned cash,” said Norman Wells, spokesman for Family Education Trust. “Many of the topics covered are totally unnecessary and positively unhelpful.”

Wells added that parents will be “appalled” that health professional have permitted development of such website.

The project’s manager Amy Danahay said the website deals with young people’s curiosity toward sex “in a fun, yet carefully thought through and educational way”

“Some of the information may be useful for young people experiencing puberty. It is important that young people get something they need and want, and that onlookers understand the reality of what young people are talking about,” she said.

As of 05:00 GMT Wednesday, the website was temporarily unavailable due to excessive traffic.

황당한 것은 이러한 비판 여론이 생긴 이후 웹사이트에 대한 관심이 폭발적으로 증가했다는 것이다. 24일 (한국시각) 현재 웹사이트는 과도한 트래픽으로 인해 접속이 불가능한 상태이다.

“스스로를 존중해라” 프로젝트는 미성년자들을 위한 성 관련 정보를 제공하기 위해 시작되었다.

프로젝트의 매니저 에이미 다나헤이는 이 웹사이트가 청소년들의 성에 대한 호기심을 “흥미롭지만 조심스럽게 고려된, 교육적인 방식”으로 다룬다고 설명했다.
