Singer Lee Moon-sae was appointed an honorary ambassador for the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games on Monday. The Special Olympics is an international sporting festival for people with intellectual disabilities.

The appointment ceremony took place during a special promotional event, the “D-15 Street Campaign, Special Olympics in Seoul,” which was held in Seoul Plaza on Monday. Chairwoman of the Special Olympics Organizing Committee Na Kyung-won presented Lee with the honorary title. 

Lee was named an honorary ambassador for the Special Olympics last December but declined an appointment ceremony at the time.

About 250 people participated in Monday’s event, including Culture Minister Choe Kwang-shik. The participants handed out leaflets, badges and souvenirs to Seoul citizens. The festival included a quiz event, an SNS photo event and an event to support athletes with intellectual disabilities.

South Korea was selected as the third Asian host for the humanitarian sporting event in Special Olympics’ history. The 2013 Pyeongchang Special Olympics Winter Games will take place Jan. 29-Feb. 4 in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province. For tickets, visit www.2013sopoc.org and http://ticket.interpark.com
