Fans react to Sunye and Sohee leaving Wonder Girls

As Wonder Girls members Sunye and Sohee officially announced their withdrawal from the group on Monday, fans responded with a mixture of disillusionment and support.

Many people already suspected that the two would no longer be part of the group -- Sunye suspended all entertainment activities since her marriage in January 2013 and Sohee transferred her management agency from JYP to BH Entertainment in December the same year. However, fans and speculators were still shocked at the news that marked the official ending of the two original members of the group that made its debut in 2007.

“Wonder Girls was one of the best K-pop girl groups that would have remained in history,” said one netizen on Tuesday. “It’s just sad that their heyday was very short and strong.”

“Wonder Girls doesn’t make sense without Sohee and Sunye,” said another netizen.

Many fans were saddened to the two members behind such hits as “Tell Me” and “Nobody” departing the group. But they also showed support and high-expectation for the group’s upcoming activities.

“I’am really sad,” another netizen commented. “But they are not leaving for bad reasons. They are just going on their separate ways, so I want to cheer for their new journey. I am also excited for the new Wonder Girls.”

The announcement was made on Monday with their goodbye letters posted on the group’s official website.

“Sunye wants to devote her life to her family and Sohee will focus on her career as an actress,” said an official from the group’s label JYP.

The remaining members -- Yeeun, Yubin, Sunmi and Hyelim -- are slated to release their new album in August as a four-member pop band.
