DAEGU, Aug. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean official Park Jung-ki was reelected to his sixth term as an executive committee member on the international athletics governing body on Thursday.

Park earned 116 of 188 possible votes in the election during the congress of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) here, the host of the upcoming World Championships in Athletics.

The 27-member executive committee decides the hosts of the biennial world championships and approves rule changes. A member serves a four-year term.

Park, 75, is a retired military officer who has also been a president of Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO). He was the head of the Korea Association of Athletics Federations (KAAF) from 1985 to 1991 and again in 1995. Park was also the vice president of the Asian Athletics Association from 1987 to 2000.

He became an IAAF executive official in 1991.

Park is credited with helping Daegu win the right to host these world championships.

Another South Korean official, Lee Young-sun, was elected to the women's committee of the IAAF Thursday.

A two-time Asian Games champion in women's javelin throw, Lee, 37, is a senior director with the KAAF.

She is the first former athlete from South Korea to join the IAAF.
