STX Group chairman Kang Duk-soo discussed business cooperation in such areas as energy development, power generation and shipbuilding with visiting Myanmarese President Thein Sein on Wednesday, company officials said.

“Myanmarese President Thein Sein, who is on a three-day state visit to Korea with his delegation from Monday, had a luncheon meeting with the group’s top management in Jinhae, South Gyeongsang Province, and took a field trip to the shipyard of STX Offshore & Shipbuilding,” the group said in a press release. STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, the group’s shipbuilding arm, is the world’s fourth-largest ship and plant manufacturer.

During the tour to the shipyard, in particular, Myanmar’s head of state expressed his interest in the combat ships under construction and the company’s advanced shipbuilding technology, the group added.

STX Group, one of the nation’s major industrial business groups, is the only private company to which the Myanmar leader paid a visit during his stay.

Based on the meeting, STX Group, whose main businesses are energy, shipbuilding, and plant construction, raised its expectation to target infrastructure building projects in Myanmar.
