Tornado-resistant AI drone fights back against intense winds
By South China Morning PostPublished : June 1, 2022 - 08:07
An autonomous drone is being developed at the California Institute of Technology – also known as Caltech – to fly against tornado-strength winds. The drone, weighing 2.3kg (5lbs), is equipped with AI, machine learning and complex algorithms. It can potentially manoeuvre and react to wind conditions with a deep-learning method developed by Caltech engineers called Neural-Fly. The method helps the drone assess its flying conditions five times within one second to adapt its flight path.
