According to the Gangwon Chuncheon Police, the victim, on Sept. 14 at around 6 p.m., bungee jumped some 42 meters straight in to the 5-meter-deep water without feeling a rebound on the elastic life cord attached to her harness.
She survived the impact, but was left with bruises over her entire body.
The victim testified from her hospital bed on Saturday that she did not feel a tug on the life cord and claimed the staff who had been on duty had neglected to secure the other end of the line to the jumping deck.
The bungee jumping center refuted the claim, insisting the staff member in question had indeed fastened the link, however the screws had unexpectedly come out. It claimed the victim had rebounded once.
However, videos recorded by the victim’s friends who were at the scene showed her fall appeared uninterrupted by any safety devices.
The staff member, surnamed Kim, 29, is to be put to police questioning under suspicion of professional negligence.
