“This elite group of leaders has laid the foundation that our industry continues to build upon,” said CEA President and chief executive Gary Shapiro. “Their vision, drive to excel and enthusiasm have helped to create the innovative consumer electronics products and services that have improved the lives of consumers worldwide. It is a pleasure to recognize this prestigious group.”
According to the CEA, this year’s inductees include company founders and investors who have promoted technology, along with marketers and retailers who educate and deliver products to consumers.
Koo, who established Gold Star ― now LG Electronics ― in 1958, is known for adding convenience to the lives of Koreans by taking the lead in developing and manufacturing electronic goods such as televisions, refrigerators, washers and air conditioners.
He also played a role in spreading information technology and telecommunications throughout the country with the supply of communication cables, telephones and switchboards, said LG officials.
