The popular MBC TV program “I am a Singer” won the top prize on Thursday at the 2011 MBC Entertainment Awards.
The show has been the talk of the town ever since it kicked off in March, introducing talented singers who had not been well-known or had been previously popular but fallen out of the public eye.
“The win is more touching because we were awarded as a team. More than anything, I think it was trust in music that brought this happy day. I am also thankful to Lee So-ra for leading us as a team,” said singer Lena Park who appeared in the program.
Other than Park, some of the singers who also regained the public’s interest through the program include Kim Bum-soo, Lee So-ra, Yoon Do-hyun, Yim Jae-beom and Insooni. Many of their songs topped online music charts after they made appearances on the show.
The MBC Entertainment Awards announced earlier that it will give the grand prize to a program and not a single entertainer starting this year. KBS Entertainment Awards held last weekend also awarded the program “One Night, Two Days” instead of a single entertainer, although it was an unexpected decision and stirred up controversy.
Yoo Jae-seok, MC of MBC’s weekend reality show “Infinite Challenge,” and Park Mi-seon of the talk show “Three Wheels” took home the Best Awards in the Variety category.
