[Today’s K-pop] Shinee to mark 13th anniversary with livestream

Shinee is hosting an online event to celebrate the 13th anniversary of debut.

To spend the anniversary with its fans, the quartet will take to Naver’s V Live for a live fan meeting on May 25. It has been holding the “SHINee Day” event annually, and this year decided to go virtual. The band will perform a series of hit songs, share episodes from their recent promotional activities and play games.

The veteran idols put out their seventh studio album, “Don’t Call Me,” in February and swept music charts at home and abroad, including topping the iTunes albums charts in 47 regions.

Taemin, the youngest member of the band, will start his compulsory military service on May 31. He held a solo digital concert Sunday and will release a solo EP, his third, on May 18.

NCT Dream to reveal new music via online show

NCT Dream will put on a digital showcase for the launch of its first full-length album next week.

The band will perform title track “Hot Sauce” for the first time at the show to be held May 11. It will also present special performances of “Ridin’” and “Boom” adapted to include Mark, who returned after over 2 1/2 years away from the group.

The seven bandmates gave a taste of new music in a series of teaser posters posing freely in front of the camera against a dazzling kitsch setting. The title track will be a hip-hop number with Afrobeat accents and addictive chanting.

“Hot Sauce” will go on sale Monday, but has already sold over 1 million units in preorders. The NCT subunit’s previous album, “Reload” in April 2020, landed at the top of iTunes albums charts in 51 regions.

Victon’s Han Seungwoo to return solo

Han Seungwoo of Victon is coming out with his second solo album next month, according to agency PlayM Entertainment on Tuesday.

He is returning as a solo artist again after 10 months. His solo debut album “Fame” was released in August last year, as he was the first to strike out on his own among members of the 4-year-old boy band. The musician participated in writing both the lyrics and melodies of all the tracks, and the album topped iTunes albums charts in 11 regions as well as local music charts.

Victon released first studio album “Voice: The Future Is Now” in January and each of the seven bandmates have been busy acting and emceeing ever since.  

Han is starring in web drama series “Love#Hashtag,” which started airing last week. This is his first role as an actor, playing one of the two male leads, an aspiring singer in his 20s in the 10-part romantic drama series.

ITZY’s new song ranks No. 5 on Spotify

ITZY’s “Mafia in the Morning” rose to No. 5 on Spotify’s global chart, announced label JYP Entertainment on Tuesday.

The group’s lead track from new EP “Guess Who” landed at the spot on the platform’s global song debuts chart. The song entered Spotify’s global top 200 chart at No. 79 last week and climbed to No. 66 this week. The EP topped iTunes albums chart in 13 regions upon its release.

The music video raked in 50 million views on YouTube in three days, a record for the girl group. The dance practice video drew 1 million views in less than 12 hours.

The quintet promised that if they come in first place in a television music chart show, they will shoot a music video themselves and upload it.
