The head of Dongbu Group said Thursday that he has decided to step down from his post after holding himself responsible for the controversy caused by his alleged sexual assault of his secretary.
"I am resigning as Dongbu Group chairman and as chief executive of its affiliates, as I think this personal matter should not become a burden on the group," Kim Jun-ki said in a statement.
"I sincerely apologize for causing trouble for the group, shareholders, investors, customers, and Dongbu's executives and employees."

His female secretary, whose name was withheld, has filed charges with the police claiming that Kim has sexually molested her on a regular basis since February, according to the police in southern Seoul.
The police said they will review the evidence submitted by her. Kim is currently said to be abroad to receive medical treatment.
A Dongbu Group official acknowledged there was partial physical contact between the two but claimed that it was done with mutual consent. (Yonhap)
